Birdcage Evening Primrose (Oenothera deltoides) is an iconic desert native famed for its large, fragrant white blossoms that bloom at dusk to attract hawkmoths. As the plant matures and dies back, its branches dry and curl inward to create a striking, basket-like frame commonly known as a 'birdcage' or 'devil's lantern'.

Indigenous peoples of the Southwest, including the Cahuilla and Paiute, historically gathered and ground the nutrient-rich seeds into flour for food, and used various plant extracts to treat skin ailments and inflammation.
