Eriogonum hoffmannii

Hoffmann's buckwheat is a rare and striking desert annual endemic to the rugged mountain ranges and gravelly slopes surrounding Death Valley. Characterized by its delicate, intricately branched stems and small clusters of pale flowers, this specialized Mojave native thrives in harsh, nutrient-poor desert soils where few other plants can survive.

While specific indigenous uses for Hoffmann's buckwheat are sparsely documented due to its localized range, species of the genus Eriogonum were widely utilized by Southwestern tribes for medicinal teas to treat stomach ailments and colds, as well as ground seeds for nourishment.
