Apache cicada

Introduction:

Their median life cycle from egg to natural adult death is around three to four years. They are adults for only about two months, during which time they reproduce. They spend the rest of their lives as nymphs underground. It is found in Central America and North America. They buzz by vibrating membranes on their abdomens.

Distribution

Habitat: forested and wooded areas, parks, and forest borders, as eggs are laid in tree twigs and nymphs depend on tree roots for their nourishment
Food: Cicada nymphs live underground, sucking from the roots of trees and other plants. Winged adults can suck plant juices, too, although they live for only a few weeks aboveground.
