Monoptilon bellioides
Mojave Desertstar
A charming belly flower that forms low, daisy-like carpets across the desert floor after winter rains. Monoptilon bellioides is easily distinguished from its cousin, M. bellidiforme, by its pappus, which consists of a single bristle and a cup of small scales. This tiny annual is a master of the short life strategy, blooming rapidly in the spring to take advantage of fleeting moisture.
